Oct. 2, 2006

IRVING, TEXAS- UCF senior Roberta Pelarigo and junior goalkeeper Jennifer Manis earned Conference USA Women's Soccer Player of the Week honors, the league office announced on Monday.

Pelarigo was named offensive player of the week after scoring three goals in two matches as the Golden Knights opened up conference play. On Friday night, she netted the game-winner in the Golden Knights' 1-0 shutout of No. 9 Rice. She followed up that effort with a two-goal performance and again scored the game-deciding tally in the 5-1 victory at Houston on Sunday.

Pelarigo currently leads all UCF players with five goals for 10 points. She was also named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week for her efforts.

"Roberta had a big weekend," said UCF head coach Amanda Cromwell. "She's is a pure goal scorer and she finished some quality chances in both games."

Manis earned defensive player of the week honors for the second time this year. She opened up the weekend by making five saves against Rice to post her third shutout of the season. She then stopped five shots in the win over Houston. Playing in all 11 matches this season, she has recorded a 1.16 goals-against-average.

"A lot of credit goes to Jenny Manis for the shutout," said Cromwell. "She came up with some big saves against Rice. Houston is also a very good attacking team and she played well again. She made a huge save when the score was 3-1 that kept the momentum in our favor."

The Golden Knights (6-4-1, 2-0-0 C-USA) play host to Memphis on Friday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. and UAB on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 1 p.m.
