Fall Season Continues for Women's Tennis at the ITA Southern Championships

Oct. 17, 2006

Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - After taking a couple of weeks off, the UCF women's tennis team returns to the courts this weekend for the ITA Southern Championships hosted by the University of Alabama. Opening round action is scheduled for Thursday with the title matches slated for Sunday.

Through the first two fall tournaments, the Golden Knights have combined for a 21-10 singles record and a 7-3 mark in doubles. Senior Becky Gordon (Tampa, Fla./Chamberlain) is 5-0 in singles, and along with freshman Zoe Kent (Valrico, Fla.), reached the Flight B finals of the C.L. Varner Memorial Invite at Rollins College. In doubles, senior Megan Hunter (Poquoson, Va.) and junior Jennifer Carati (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) took home the Flight B crown in convincing fashion.

In last year's ITA regional, Hunter and junior Anna Yakimchenkova (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./American School) claimed the Flight B doubles title, while Yakimchenkova advanced all the way to the Flight B singles final but came up just short of another first-place prize. The 2005 event was hosted by the University of Georgia.
