GREENVILLE, N.C. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Freshman Brianna Schooley (Coral Springs, Fla./Douglas HS) and senior Kristin Bilby (Chino Hills, Calif./Ruben S. Ayala HS) each scored their first goals of the season as UCF edged East Carolina, 2-1, in Conference USA women's soccer action on Friday night.
The win was the Golden Knights' fifth in six outings as they improved to 8-5-1 overall and 4-1-0 in league play. The Pirates fell to 6-5-2 overall and 1-2-1 in C-USA.
After a scoreless first half, Bilby sparked the UCF offense in the 69th minute. Senior Roberta Pelarigo (Sao Paulo, Brazil) started the play as she served the ball to Bilby, who headed it into the net.
Ten minutes later, Schooley tallied her first collegiate goal - unassisted - when she found the back of the net on a deflection.
The Pirates countered in the 87th minute on a corner kick. Junior Jami Dickerson scored with an assist to freshman Sarah Kirkley and junior Patty Pierce.
ECU finished the night with a slight 11-10 edge in shots and a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks. UCF junior goalkeeper Jennifer Manis (Pensacola, Fla./Washington HS) made four saves, while East Carolina sophomore Amber Campbell had three.
