ORLANDO - After countless workouts and spending time getting used to a new season and teammates, the UCF softball team finally tests itself this weekend when it hosts the UCF Softball Fall Tournament. All games will be held at the new UCF Softball Complex Saturday and Sunday with a time limit of an hour and a half per game.
UCF will be joined by Daytona Beach C.C., South Florida C.C., St. John's River C.C., Brevard C.C., Seminole C.C., Santa Fe C.C. and Hillsborough C.C. DBCC and Brevard kick things off at 9 a.m. Saturday, while the Golden Knights take the field for the first time against DBCC at 2:15 p.m. UCF also plays St. John's River at 5:45 p.m. and then SFCC at 7:30 p.m.
Sunday's schedule features UCF battling SCC at 10:45 a.m., Santa Fe at 4 p.m. and HCC at 5:45 p.m. The Golden Knights will serve as the host team for all of their games.
The 2006 spring season, the first for the program in Conference USA, saw UCF finish 19-37 record, but was riddled by injuries throughout the year. For 2006-07, the Golden Knights have plenty of experience returning as a total of 14 student-athletes started at least 20 games each, and there was not a single senior on last year's roster.
UCF had a pitching staff earned-run average of 2.67 a year ago. Junior Allison Kime (Brandon, Fla./Bloomingdale) had a 1.64 ERA in 39 appearances, striking out 222 in 226.2 innings pitched. At the plate, senior Cici Alvarez (Pembroke Pines, Fla./McArthur) started all 56 games at third base, leading the team with a .313 batting average and 22 stolen bases.
