Volleyball to Recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Oct. 10, 2006

ORLANDO - The UCF volleyball team is recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness month by taking a leading role to raise funds and awareness to combat the disease prior to its two home matches this week. The Golden Knights host Marshall at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13 at the Education Gym on campus and then face East Carolina on Sunday, Oct. 15 at the UCF Arena at 1 p.m.

Admission to all UCF contests is free courtesy of McDonald's.

Prior to both home matches, educational materials will be available for women of all ages. In addition, pink ribbon pins, hats and visors will be on sale to raise funds. Donations will be accepted before both matches and given to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The foundation works to eradicate breast cancer through research, education, screening and treatment.

"Breast cancer affects millions of women around the world and we want to help raise awareness in any way possible," said UCF head coach Meg Colado. "Our players hope that the fans attending our matches will learn more about breast cancer and most importantly how screen for it."

UCF players will be wearing pink ribbons at both Conference USA contests in support of the Komen Foundation.
