GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Junior outside hitter Lorin Lukas recorded a career-high 29 digs, but it was not enough as the UCF volleyball team fell 3-1 (30-20, 22-30, 30-23, 30-20) to Florida A&M on Saturday afternoon at the O'Connell Center as part of the Campus USA Credit Union Classic. Lukas' 29 digs were good for fourth on the Golden Knights' (3-6) single-match register.
Lukas also posted 15 kills for the double-double. Senior outside hitter Maina Heming, who earned a spot on the all-tournament team, finished with 19 kills and 13 digs. The Rattlers improved to 1-5 with the victory. Florida A&M hit .230 for the contest, compared to .188 for the Golden Knights, who recorded a season-high 96 digs.
The Rattlers posted a .409 hitting percentage in game one. The Golden Knights responded in the second game, racing out to a 10-6 lead. Heming had seven kills as UCF hit .333 during the second game.
Freshman setter Andrea Youngblood recorded a season-high 36 assists. Freshman libero Tricia Scott had 21 digs in the losing effort.
Maria Andonova had a double-double for the Rattlers with 28 kills and 21 digs. Marrita Crocket added 20 kills and 11 digs. Zaira Manzo recorded a match-high 50 assists and Rosa Rojas led the squad with 34 digs.
UCF opens Conference USA action on Saturday, Sept. 15, playing at Southern Miss. The Golden Knights' next home contest is slated for Wednesday, Sept. 19 at USF.
