Men's Golf Moves Up To Fifth At Topy Cup

Tanagura, Japan - The UCF men's golf team moved up one spot in the team standings to fifth after posting a second-round score of 291 on Wednesday at the Topy Cup Intercollegiate Golf Championship in Tanagura, Japan. Sophomore Greg Forest, the first-round leader after shooting a 68 on Tuesday, fell to third in the individual standings after posting an even-par score of 72 at the Tanagura Country Club.

Sophomore Kyle Davis turned in the best second-round score for the Golden Knights, carding a two-under, 70. Davis' 70 was an eight-shot improvement from his opening-round score and helped UCF improve five strokes in the team scoring, where they now stand with an 11-over total of 587.

UCF trails tournament-leader Arizona State by 15 strokes entering Thursday's final round. The Sun Devils are at four-under, 572, eight strokes in front of Kentucky. Arizona State All-American Niklas Lemke took the overall lead at 137 after shooting a four-under, 68. Lemke leads Kentucky's Brad Dostler, who posted the low-round of the tournament with a five-under, 67, by one stroke.

Sophomore Preston Brown shot a one-over, 73, while freshman Mike Stern shot a four-over, 76, for the second-consecutive day to round out the scoring for the Golden Knights. UCF is one of four American schools competing against six university teams from Japan. The Golden Knights' season-opening tournament concludes on Thursday with 18 more holes.
