IRVING, TEXAS- UCF junior goalkeeper Jennifer Manis, who posted consecutive shutouts over the weekend, was named Conference USA Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
The native of Pensacola, Fla. made a combined seven saves as the Golden Knights went 1-0-1 last weekend. On Friday, Manis made two saves and recorded her second career shutout in UCF's 2-0 win over Florida Atlantic. She followed that by stopping five shots in a 0-0 double overtime tie with Fresno State on Sunday.
Manis boasts a goals-against-average of 0.71 in four matches thus far this season.
"We're very excited for Jennifer. This is a well-deserved award," said UCF head coach Amanda Cromwell. "Earning two shutouts against quality teams isn't easy. She played well and came up with big saves at key times. I only wish we could have scored and given her the win against Fresno State."
With an overall record of 2-1-1, the Golden Knights next visit Las Vegas, Nev. for the UNLV Invitational, where they play the host Rebels on Friday at 10 p.m. ET and face Arizona State on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.
