ORLANDO - Four Golden Knights posted double-doubles, but it was not enough as the UCF volleyball team fell to visiting Southern Miss, 3-2 (30-26, 27-30, 23-30, 30-28, 15-8) in Conference USA action on Friday afternoon at the UCF Arena. The Golden Knights fall to 5-10 overall and 1-3 in league play with the loss.

Junior outside hitters Lorin Lukas (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs HS) and Schanell Neiderworder (Aurora, Colo./Grandview HS) both recorded 15 kills for the hosts. Neiderworder had 16 digs and Lukas registered 15 digs. Senior outside hitter Maina Heming (Sao Leopoldo, Brazil) posted 14 kills and a team-best 18 digs.

The Golden Eagles (9-9, 2-2) hit .367 in game four and .450 in the final game. Southern Miss had a .239 hitting percentage for the match.

The Golden Knights hit .173 for the contest. Neiderworder had seven total blocks and senior middle blocker Jana Mitchell (Champlin, Minn./Osseo HS) added six total blocks. Senior setter Leah Alexander (Georgetown, Texas/Leander HS) tallied a match-high 38 assists and also had 16 digs for the double-double in only four games. Sophomore middle blocker Stephanie Serna (San Antonio, Texas/O'Connor HS) recorded 10 kills.

Morgan Johnson and Ashley Petrinec both posted 14 kills for the Golden Eagles. Maia Ivanova had 28 digs and Cassie Lavery tallied 31 assists.

The Golden Knights return to action on Friday, Oct. 6 at Rice for a league match. The squad's next home contest is set for Friday, Oct. 13 against C-USA opponent Marshall at 3 p.m. The contest will be played at the Education Gym on the UCF campus.
