ORLANDO - Only a week removed from taking part in a very difficult field at the NCAA Fall Preview, the UCF women's golf team travels to the Bluegrass State this weekend for the Kentucky Wildcat Invitational. Saturday features the first two rounds while Sunday concludes action with the final round, all to take place at the University Club (6,157 yards, par-72).
The Golden Knights are one of 15 programs set to compete in the tournament. They will be joined by: Augusta State, Birmingham Southern, East Carolina, Eastern Kentucky, host Kentucky, Louisville, Memphis, Miami, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Murray State, Nebraska, N.C. State and Richmond. Last year's champion, Florida, will not be taking part in the event this season.
UCF began the new year in Daytona Beach Sept. 22-24 by serving as the host school for the 2006 Golf Daytona Beach NCAA Fall Preview. In three rounds of play, the Golden Knights posted a lower score as the tournament progressed as they went with a lineup that included a senior, a sophomore and three freshmen. Newcomer Leigh Crosby (Athens, Ga./Oconee) was UCF's top golfer, finishing in a tie for 71st. She climbed the leaderboard on the final day by carding a one-over 73 on the tough LPGA International's Legends Course.
