ORLANDO - Facing a difficult field at the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate hosted by UAB, the UCF men's golf team shot a 12-over par 300 during the final round Tuesday to finish in fourth place. Sophomore Preston Brown (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla/Nease) posted the fifth-best score of the final round as he fired a one-under 71 to lead all Golden Knights. Brown's 71 gave him a three-round total of 218, which tied him for seventh in the individual standings.
Entering the final round in second place and carrying a slim, two-stroke lead over Tennessee and Florida State, UCF dropped to fourth after the Vols fired the low-round of the day with a 288 (E) and Florida State posted a 295 (+7). Alabama, who led the tournament after each round, held on for the win after tallying a 293 (+5).
Sophomore Kyle Davis (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) was the next Golden Knight finisher, tying for 18th with a total of 222 (+6). Davis was followed by classmate Greg Forest (Palm City, Fla.), who tallied a 224 (+8). True freshman Nuno Henriques (Funchal, Portugal/The Pendleton School) made his collegiate debut at the event and finished in a tie for 46th with a 228. Henriques had the low round of the tournament for the Golden Knights with a two-under, 70, in round two.
