UCF Faces SMU at Home on Friday

ORLANDO - The UCF volleyball team returns to action on Friday, hosting SMU for a Conference USA match at 7 p.m. at the UCF Arena. Admission to all UCF home contests is free courtesy of McDonald's.

The Golden Knights (5-7, 1-0 C-USA) are coming off of an impressive 3-0 victory over visiting USF on Tuesday. Senior outside hitter Maina Heming (Sao Leopoldo, Brazil) and junior outside hitter Schanell Neiderworder (Aurora, Colo./Grandview HS) both finished with 15 kills for UCF. Freshman setter Andrea Youngblood (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County HS) led the Golden Knights with 45 assists.

Junior outside hitter Lorin Lukas (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs HS) ranks third nationally in service aces per game, averaging 0.83 per game. As a team, the Golden Knights are 21st in the category (2.4).

UCF opened league play on Sept. 15 and recorded a 3-1 victory at Southern Miss.

SMU is 9-5 overall and 0-1 in C-USA contests. The Mustangs are 0-3 on the road in 2006. Last weekend, the squad went 2-1 at the Indiana Credit Union Invitational.

UCF and SMU will be meeting for only the second time and for the first time in Orlando. A year ago, the Mustangs registered a 3-1 win in Dallas, Texas. Heming had 15 kills and Neiderworder recorded 22 digs and 14 kills against the Mustangs.
