ORLANDO - UCF head women's basketball coach Gail Striegler announced the Golden Knights' 2006-07 schedule on Wednesday. The campaign, the squad's final year in the UCF Arena, features four games against 2006 postseason teams, two home tournaments and a trip to the Junkanoo Jam Tournament in the Bahamas.

UCF opens the season on the road with games at Appalachian State on Nov. 11 and Southeastern Louisiana on Nov. 13 before returning home to host the UCF Golden Knights Tournament, which includes Bowling Green, Fairleigh Dickinson and Albany, from Nov. 17-18. They also travel to Jacksonville on Nov. 21.

The Golden Knights are set to spend the Thanksgiving holiday in Freeport, Bahamas, where they take on 2006 NCAA Tournament qualifier Baylor in the opening round of the Junkanoo Jam Tournament on Nov. 24. Also participating are South Dakota State and Virginia, who made an appearance in the 2006 WNIT.

"The team is looking forward to the tournament in the Bahamas," said Strielger. "We like to take the players somewhere special and the strong field at the Junkanoo Jam gives us the chance to play some competitive games."

December's slate features five games at the UCF Arena, beginning with Georgia Southern on Dec. 1 followed by 2006 NCAA Tournament participant and in-state rival Florida State on Dec. 9. The Golden Knights travel to Bethune-Cookman on Dec. 13 prior to competing in the UCF Holiday Classic against North Florida on Dec. 18 and Florida A&M on Dec. 19. Iona comes to the UCF Arena on Dec. 28 to conclude the non-conference slate.

"Traditionally we play a strong non-conference schedule in order to prepare for the rigors of conference play. This year we will be testing our team early against four teams that participated in postseason play last spring. Those games allow us to gauge our performance against some tough opponents," said Striegler.

UCF makes its 2006-07 Conference USA debut on New Year's Eve at Southern Miss. The squad also visits Marshall on Jan. 5 and East Carolina on Jan. 7 before hitting the court for its first home conference game against UAB on Jan. 12.

The Golden Knights play home-and-home series against Marshall, East Carolina, UAB, Memphis and Southern Miss. They also take on 2006 C-USA champion Tulsa, Houston and Rice at the UCF Arena and face UTEP, Tulane and SMU on the road.

Much like UCF started the season, the Golden Knights cap the year with a home stand against Marshall on Feb. 22 and East Carolina on Feb. 24.

"Opening the conference schedule with three games on the road will be tough, but it will help us gain valuable experience and down the stretch," said Striegler. "We will have home court advantage for the final two games as we push toward the C-USA Tournament."

The 2007 C-USA Women's Basketball Champion takes place from March 1-4 in Tulsa, Okla.
