Final Stats
LAWRENCE, Kan. - Sophomore Jessica Bush and senior Holly Gault each recorded a goal and added an assist as No. 18 Kansas defeated the UCF women's soccer team, 2-0, at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex on Sunday.
After the UCF defense blocked the Jayhawks' (5-2-0) first two shots, Gault found the back of the net in the 10th minute. Bush served the ball to Gault, who scored from 12 yards.
The Golden Knights (3-4-1) had the chance to tie the match five minutes later on shot by senior Roberta Pelarigo (Sao Paulo, Brazil) but KU sophomore goalkeeper Julie Hanley made the save. UCF also earned an opportunity off senior Jessalyn Withers' (Melbourne, Fla./Eau Gallie HS) corner kick in the 40th minute. The resulting shot by sophomore Erin Hopkins (Lakeland, Fla./Lake Region HS) was stopped by Hanley.
Bush gave Kansas the 2-0 lead in the 59th minute. Gault corralled a loose ball then passed it to Bush.
KU outshot the Golden Knights by a margin of 21-8 and also had a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks. Hanley made three saves in the win, while UCF junior goalkeeper Jennifer Manis (Pensacola, Fla./Washington HS) had five.
After four games on the road, UCF returns to action when it hosts UC Santa Barbara on Sunday, Sept. 24 at the UCF Soccer Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
