UCF Volleyball Falls to Troy

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Junior outside hitter Lorin Lukas (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs HS) established a UCF volleyball single-match record with nine service aces, but it was not enough as the Golden Knights dropped a 3-2 (28-30, 33-31, 30-27, 30-32, 15-9) non-league match to Troy at the Payne Center on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Knights (4-7) recorded 17 service aces as a team, the sixth-best mark in program history.

Lukas had a complete contest, finishing with 19 kills and 15 digs. Freshman setter Andrea Youngblood (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County HS) led UCF with a season-high 60 assists.

Troy improved to 5-9 with the win. The match was played on the Southern Miss campus.

UCF hit just -.046 in game five, compared to the Trojans, who had a .286 hitting percentage in the final game. For the match, Troy hit .318 and the Golden Knights hit .238.

In the losing effort, senior outside hitter Maina Heming (Sao Leopoldo, Brazil) had a double-double with 17 kills and a match-high 19 digs. Junior outside hitter Schanell Neiderworder (Aurora, Colo./Grandview HS) had 16 kills and 14 digs for UCF.

Lukas has 33 service aces on the year. Her nine aces against Troy places her at fourth with seven other players on Conference USA's single-match register. Four players, including Lukas, shared the UCF single-match record with seven service aces. Against Utah Valley State on Sept. 2, she recorded seven aces.

Jean McCarthy paced Troy with 21 kills and Liz Leeds added 18 kills and 16 digs. Meghan Washlow posted 68 assists in the win.

The Golden Knights return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 19, hosting cross-state rival USF.
