GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Despite a season-high 16 digs from senior outside hitter Maina Heming, the UCF volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (30-19, 30-21, 30-16) match at sixth-ranked Florida on Friday evening at the O'Connell Center. The contest served as the opening match for both teams at the Campus USA Credit Union Classic.

The Golden Knights (3-5) were facing a ranked team for the first time this season. Florida (5-1) hit .349 for the match, compared to .009 for UCF.

Junior outside hitter Lorin Lukas paced UCF with eight kills. Lukas and freshman libero Tricia Scott both totaled nine digs. Senior setter Leah Alexander recorded 14 assists for the Golden Knights.

UCF and Florida were meeting for the first time since 2003. The squads played that season in the second round of the NCAA Championship in Gainesville.

Amber McCray tallied 11 kills in the winning effort. Angie McGinnis had 35 assists and Elyse Cusack posted 18 digs for the Gators.

The match was played before a crowd of 3,022.
