ORLANDO - The UCF football team travels to Gainesville, Fla., on Saturday for a showdown with in-state foe and seventh-ranked Florida. The Golden Knights and Gators both won their season-opening contests a week ago in convincing fashion and will meet on the gridiron for just the second time in history.
The game will be televised on a pay-per view basis in the state of Florida on Sun Sports, while the rest of the country can order the contest through ESPN Game Plan. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. ET.
The Golden Knights won a season-opener for the first time in eight years, defeating Villanova 35-16 on Sept. 2 at the Citrus Bowl. Senior wide receiver Mike Walker (Orlando, Fla./Edgewater) returned to the line-up following a knee injury that cost him the final two games of the 2005 season to haul in a pair of touchdown passes from classmate Steven Moffet (Winter Park, Fla./Winter Park).
Moffett and UF signal caller Chris Leak each threw for a trio of touchdowns in the opening games of their respective senior seasons. Leak tossed his touchdowns against another Conference USA opponent as the Gators claimed a 34-7 decision against visiting Southern Miss.
The UCF-UF contest marks the 12th time the Golden Knights will face a Southeastern Conference team with the 11 previous games also being played on the road. The Gators are the third-highest ranked opponent UCF will face in its history, trailing only a 1995 contest with top-ranked Florida State and the only previous match-up with the Gators when Florida was ranked No. 4 in 1999. UF won that contest.
UCF returns home to the Citrus Bowl on Sept. 16 to face another in-state foe in USF. The match-up with the Bulls will mark the first time in school history the Golden Knights have faced back-to-back opponents from the Sunshine State. The UCF-USF game will be aired live nationally on CSTV with kickoff slated for 2:30 p.m.
