ORLANDO - The UCF volleyball team will be in action at home on Friday and Saturday, hosting the four-team UCF Classic at the UCF Arena. The Golden Knights open the tournament with a 1 p.m. match on Friday versus Samford.
Furman and Utah Valley State are also competing at the event. UCF will also play against Furman on Friday at 7 p.m. The hosts conclude the tournament with a 1 p.m. match on Saturday versus Utah Valley State.
The Golden Knights improved to 2-2 on Tuesday with a 3-1 (32-30, 30-23, 26-30, 33-31) victory over host North Florida in Jacksonville. Senior outside hitter Maina Heming paced UCF with 17 kills and 12 digs. Junior outside hitter Schanell Neiderworder also had double-figures in the same categories, registering 14 kills and 16 digs. Senior setter Leah Alexander totaled 30 assists in the winning effort.
Furman went 2-1 at the East Carolina Invitational last weekend. The Paladins closed the tournament with a 3-0 (30-25, 30-25, 30-19) win over William & Mary on Saturday.
Samford (0-2) dropped a pair of 3-1 matches at the Magic/Music City Classic in Birmingham, Ala. on Saturday. The Bulldogs lost to Belmont and Lipscomb. The Golden Knights are 11-0 all-time against Samford. Both programs are former members of the Atlantic Sun Conference.
On Tuesday, Utah Valley State fell to 1-3 overall after losing 3-0 (30-23, 30-26, 30-21) at Weber State.
Admission to all UCF volleyball matches is free courtesy of McDonald's. Fans attending UCF contests should park in the F5 lot, located behind the arena. Additional parking is available in the East Plaza Garage on the third level and above only.
