ORLANDO - The UCF football team continued its trend of excellence in the classroom this past summer by posting a team grade point average of 2.98. The Golden Knights, who enter the 2006 season with no student-athletes on academic probation, have an overall cumulative team GPA of 2.81.

Over the summer, 10 players earned a perfect 4.00 GPA, while 62 total student-athletes had a 3.00 GPA or higher.

Since head coach George O'Leary arrived at UCF in 2004, the Golden Knights have greatly improved in the classroom. Last fall, the team had a combined GPA of 2.808, setting a school Division I-A record. In 2005, UCF placed 39 student-athletes on the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll, the most of any squad in the league.

Members of UCF's current freshman class were enrolled in the summer B term and posted a GPA of 3.057.

"The student-athletes were dedicated to their studies over the summer and I am proud of the effort that they gave in the classroom," said UCF football academic advisor Kristy Belden. "In their first semester on campus, the freshmen excelled academically and had a great start to their college careers."

Senior offensive tackle Dan Veenstra earned his degree over the summer. He is one of three current Golden Knights who are attending graduate school, joining senior center Cedric Gagne-Marcoux and senior defensive end Kareem Reid.
