ORLANDO - On Wednesday, the UCF football team continued its preparations for the 2006 regular season with a two-hour practice. The Golden Knights open the season on Sept. 2 at home against Villanova.
During Wednesday's session, UCF's tailbacks had several strong runs. Senior Jason Peters, sophomore Kevin Smith and freshman Phillip Smith all found the end zone during 11-on-11 work.
Kevin Smith, the 2005 Conference USA Freshman of the Year, has been one of the team's top players in camp. Last year, he ran for 1,178 yards, the second-highest mark for any true freshman in the nation. This year, Smith has looked more comfortable following UCF's offensive line.
"I feel better out there now," he said. "I know the offense and it is easier to play when you understand the system. The offensive line gives me so much support, so I feel really good at out there."
The Golden Knights are slated to practice on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
