Aug. 14, 2006

ORLANDO - The UCF women's soccer team was ranked 10th in the Southeast Region Preseason Poll released by SoccerBuzz.com on Monday.

The Golden Knights, who finished 12-10 overall and 8-1 in Conference USA during 2005, moved up four spots from their season-ending ranking of 14th.

"We're happy to be ranked in the top 10 in the Southeast Region, but we look at it as a starting point," said UCF head coach Amanda Cromwell. "Our goal is to earn some wins against our quality opponents and to continue to move up the list."

The list featured five schools on UCF's 2006 schedule, including top-ranked Florida State and No. 3 Florida, as well as No. 8 Florida Atlantic, No. 13 UAB and No. 15 Miami. North Carolina was in the No. 2 spot, while Duke and Georgia rounded out the top five.

The Golden Knights play exhibition matches against USF on Friday at 7 p.m. and UF on Sunday at 4 p.m. before making their regular season debut at Miami on Aug. 25 at 7 p.m.
