ORLANDO - UCF head women's tennis coach Patricia Allison announced the hiring of former Stetson standout Beth Hayden as an assistant coach on Thursday. Hayden is slated to start at the end of August.

"I am very excited to be a part of the UCF women's tennis team," said Hayden. "As an assistant coach, I am anxious to learn from the experience of Coach Allison as well as contribute my own ideas and experiences to the team."

Hayden joins the Golden Knight staff following an outstanding collegiate career at nearby Stetson, where she played two years in the Hatters' lineup and posted a 22-16 singles record. She was named Second-Team All-Atlantic Sun in 2003, while she earned A-Sun All-Academic Team honors twice.

Hayden began her collegiate tennis career at Iowa in 1999, helping the Hawkeyes advance to the NCAA Tournament that year.

In addition to her experience as a player, Hayden has also served as a coach at the Wisconsin-Whitewater Tennis Camp for five summers and also taught lessons for a year at Iowa.

Hayden holds a bachelor's degree in psychology.

"We are pleased to have Beth Hayden join our program," said Allison. "She brings maturity, a solid collegiate background and a strong desire to assist the program to go the next level. It is my belief that Beth's strong moral character will serve as the basis of her ability to assist and direct the team."

The UCF women's tennis team finished with a record of 12-9 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Championship in 2006.
