Aug. 10, 2006

SKILLMAN, N.J. - Five UCF tennis players were honored for their work in the classroom on Thursday when the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its 2006 scholar-athletes. Two men's players, Jimmy Roesch and Sinan Sudas, were recognized along with three women's players - Becky Gordon, Megan Hunter and Anna Yakimchenkova.

A student-athlete must have a 3.50 or higher grade point average to be eligible for the award.

Roesch, who is majoring in health studies, is entering his sophomore season. A business major, Sudas is entering his junior campaign. Under head coach Bobby Cashman, UCF players have earned ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition on 11 occasions.

Gordon and Hunter will both be seniors this season. Gordon is an accounting major and Hunter is majoring in marketing. A junior-to-be, Yakimchenkova is majoring in business.

Since head coach Patricia Allison took over the Golden Knight women's program in 2000, 37 student-athletes have earned ITA academic honors.
