Volleyball Opens Preseason Camp

Aug. 9, 2006

ORLANDO - The UCF volleyball team opened its 2006 preseason camp on Wednesday morning, practicing at the Education Gym on campus. Head coach Meg Colado's team is entering its second year in Conference USA.

UCF returns eight players from last season's squad, but also welcomes six newcomers to the program. Colado expects the team to mesh and come together during the preseason camp.

"My goal for camp is to inundate the newcomers to our system," said Colado. "The practices will give them ample opportunities to get to know each other's tendencies."

Colado will look to her senior class for leadership, especially middle blocker Jana Mitchell. A year ago, her 1.16 blocks per game were good for fourth in the league. Mitchell's 117 total blocks in 2005 ranked 10th on UCF's single-season register.

The Golden Knights start the regular season at home on Aug. 25, facing local rival Stetson to open the UCF Fall Invitational. The team has 15 home contests this year, including eight in C-USA play.
