METAIRIE, La.- The UCF women's track and field team garnered its fifth consecutive all-academic team award, while junior pole vaulter Katie Fowke earned her second straight individual honor, the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced recently.
"I'm proud that the UCF women's track and field program continues to build upon its history of academic success," said UCF head coach Marcia Mansur-Wenworth.
The Golden Knights posted a 3.101 team grade-point-average to meet the qualifications, which state that a squad must carry a 3.0 or better cumulative GPA through the spring semester. In NCAA Division I, 61 teams received recognition.
In order to receive individual honors, a student-athlete must qualify for the NCAA Regional and have a 3.25 or better cumulative GPA. Fowke, a psychology major, competed in her third consecutive NCAA East Regional after posting a qualifying mark of 12-5.50 at the Bulldog Limited in late April. The effort stands as the UCF record.
