ATLANTA, Ga. - UCF was named to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll for NCAA Division I, the organization announced on Tuesday.
The Golden Knights posted a team grade-point-average (GPA) of 3.335 during the 2005-06 academic year, which ranked them 16th in the nation. They were the only Conference USA team to make the WBCA's list.
"This is a great honor," said head coach Gail Striegler, who is entering her eighth year at the helm of the Golden Knights. "It is a testament to how hard our players worked in classroom this past season. As a team, we've really put an emphasis on academics and we have an amazing support system with our administration and Academic Services for Student-Athletes that helped us toward this achievement."
South Dakota State earned top honors with a GPA of 3.730, while in-state rival Florida checked in at 23rd with a 3.299.
UCF women's basketball was also among the most improved teams on campus this year, going up well over half a point from its previous GPA in 2004-05.
