ORLANDO - UCF head women's soccer coach Amanda Cromwell announced the team's 2006 schedule on Monday. The Golden Knights are slated to face seven 2005 NCAA Tournament participants during their second campaign as members of Conference USA.
After taking on USF and 2005 NCAA Tournament qualifier Florida in exhibition matches, UCF officially opens the season in Miami when the Golden Knights visit the Hurricanes on Aug. 25 and Florida International on Aug. 27.
September includes five matches against 2005 NCAA Tournament participants, beginning with the Golden Knights home opener against former Atlantic Sun Conference rival Florida Atlantic and a home contest against Fresno State.
UCF then heads to Las Vegas, Nev. for the UNLV addidas Classic, where they face host UNLV and Arizona State, before visiting 2005 College Cup qualifier Florida State for a midweek match-up on Sept. 13. The Golden Knights also travel to Kansas on Sept. 17 before returning home for a game against UC-Santa Barbara a week later.
The 2006 C-USA campaign begins with a trip to Houston, Texas as the Golden Knights cap off the month against on 2005 NCAA Tournament qualifier Rice then kick off October with Houston. After home contests against Memphis and UAB the following weekend, UCF visits East Carolina, Marshall and Southern Miss.
The Golden Knights finish the regular season at the UCF Soccer Complex with NCAA Tournament participant SMU and Tulsa with an eye focused upon being one of the six teams competing in the C-USA Championship hosted by SMU in Dallas, Texas.
"Our 2006 schedule might be the most challenging schedule we've ever played at UCF," said Cromwell. "C-USA games are always very competitive as three members made the post-season last year with two advancing to the 2nd round. We are also excited to continue our in-state rivalries with Florida, Florida State, Miami, USF, FAU and FIU."
The 2005 Golden Knights finished the season with a 12-10 overall record and an 8-1 mark in league play as they shared the C-USA Regular Season Championship with SMU.
