ORLANDO - Bryan Peters, who has 10 years of coaching experience at USF and Stetson, has been named assistant baseball coach at UCF, head coach Jay Bergman announced Monday. Peters will serve as UCF's hitting coach and also work with the infielders.
Bergman also announced that former assistant coach Derek Wolfe will now serve as director of baseball operations at UCF.
"Bryan is an experienced coached who has worked in Conference USA and has been very successful as a recruiting coordinator," Bergman said. "He will add another dimension to our offense as hitting coach."
Peters spent last season as an assistant coach at Stetson. During his tenure with the Hatters, Peters served as first base coach and worked with the outfielders.
"This coaching opportunity at UCF has me as excited as I have been in a long time," said Peters. "The staff here at UCF is as good as it gets."
Prior to Stetson, Peters spent nine years as an assistant coach at USF and two years as a player. Peters served as the Bulls' recruiting coordinator and hitting instructor and also worked with the defense, base running and conditioning.
One of the most versatile players on the team during his career at USF (1995-96), Peters earned time at second base, shortstop, third base, left field and on the mound. He helped guide the Bulls to two regular season conference titles and two NCAA Regional appearances as a player and to three NCAA berths (1997, 2001, 2002) as a coach.
In 1997, Peters spent parts of two months in Puerto Rico coaching a Roberto Clemente all-star team of 15 and 16-year olds. He has also coached at several camps and clinics and presented lectures on hitting at the Florida High School Coaches Association annual workshop.
A native of Lancaster, Calif., Peters was an all-conference performer at Antelope Valley (Calif.) Community College. He later transferred to USF where he earned his bachelor's degree in speech communication in 1997.
