June 6, 2006

ORLANDO - UCF head women's basketball coach Gail Striegler announced the hiring of Anthony Crocitto as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator on Wednesday.

Scheduled to report on June 9, Crocitto comes to the Golden Knights after two seasons as an assistant coach at Hofstra. As a member of the Pride staff, he helped guide the team to a 19-12 record and an appearance in the WNIT in 2005-06. Off the court, he saw the squad attain a 3.0 grade-point-average each semester.

"We're proud to have Anthony become a part of our staff after such a successful season at Hofstra," said Striegler, who is entering her eighth year at the helm. "He brings tremendous energy to the team and the post players will benefit from his expertise. Anthony also has a wealth of recruiting experience and valuable ties in the Northeast region that we can use to expand our recruiting base."

Prior to his stint at Hofstra, Crocitto spent two years as the top assistant and recruiting coordinator at Farleigh Dickinson, where the team finished in fourth in the nation academically. He also served as head coach at Mount Ida College from 2000-01 and led the Mustangs to their first-ever postseason appearance.

Crocitto began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Dowling College in 1997 before taking over as the head coach in 1999. At the helm, he guided the Golden Lions to their first ever postseason win and posted a school record for wins in a season.

A 1995 graduate of Hofstra, Crocitto holds a bachelor's degree in management.
