Rowing's Sarff Earns National Team Camp Invite

May 4, 2006

ORLANDO - UCF women's rowing standout Krystina Sarff has been invited to attend the USRowing Under-23 National Team Selection Camp this summer. The junior is one of 20 collegiate rowers in the nation that have been selected to attend the camp, which begins June 6 in Berkley, Calif.

Sarff will be seeking a spot on the United States squad that will compete at the Under-23 World Championships in Belgium in late July. The camp will begin in California and then shift to Mercer Lake in New Jersey in late June.

A Valrico, Fla. native, Sarff has been a key performer on UCF's nationally-ranked varsity eight boat this season. Following a strong performance at the Stanford Invitational against Washington State, UCLA and Stanford, the Golden Knights moved into the USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Varsity Eight Coaches Poll for the first time in school history on April 19. UCF is currently ranked 19th in the poll.

"Krystina has had a pretty amazing year," said UCF head coach Leeanne Crain. "She has played a key role in the success of the varsity eight this season. This is a great opportunity for her and I am sure she will perform well at camp."

Sarff and the Golden Knights will be in action on Saturday, competing at one of the nation's premier events, the Windermere Cup in Seattle. UCF will race head-to-head against 10th-ranked Washington and the Russian Under-23 National Team.
