ORLANDO - UCF women's cross country and track coach Marcia Mansur-Wentworth announced Wednesday the signing of Jackson, New Jersey-native Jenny Clausen to a National Letter of Intent (NLI).
A standout at Jackson Memorial High School, Clausen twice earned the county and group championship and also won the conference and South Jersey titles. She was the 2004 Great American Champion and a Footlocker Finalist in both 2003 and 2004.
Clausen recorded a personal best of 17:31 in the 5K at the Ocean County Championships, which stands as a course record.
On the track, Clausen excelled in the both the distance and middle distance events. She won the Eastern State and Central Jersey Group Championship in the indoor 3200m in 2004 and took home the 2005 Central Jersey Group Championship in the 3200m this season.
"Jenny is an extremely focused young woman. She has shown great range and has been a member of a very competitive high school team at Jackson High School," said Mansur-Wentworth. "She has the talent and work ethic to be a very successful college distance runner."
In their first year in Conference USA, the Golden Knights placed ninth at the cross country championship and seventh at the indoor track and field championship. They compete in the 2006 C-USA Outdoor Track and Field Championship from May 11-13.
