UCF Trio to Compete in NCAA East Regional

May 24, 2006

ORLANDO - Three members of the UCF women's track and field team will compete at the NCAA East Regional at North Carolina A&T's Irwin Belk Track in Greensboro, N.C. on Friday and Saturday.

Headlining the list of Golden Knights is senior Tiffany Roebuck in the hammer throw. At Disney Relays in March, she qualified for her third consecutive regional in the event after shattering the school record with a toss of 192-feet, three inches. Her effort also ranks ninth in the region.

Making an appearance at the NCAA Regional for the second consecutive year, senior Diana Chin competes in the long jump. She posted a season-best of 19-10.75 at the Conference USA Championships only two weeks ago.

Meanwhile, sophomore Victoria Chin debuts at the regional after an injury scratched her from the triple jump competition in 2005. This season she races in the 400-meter hurdles, an event in which she posted a personal best of 1:00.80 at the Texas Relays in April.

Both Diana and Victoria Chin are ranked in the region's top 25 in their respective events.

Junior Katie Fowke also qualified for the regional in the pole vault thanks to a school record of 12-5.50, but is unable to compete due to an injury.

In order to advance to the 2006 National Championship, which takes place in Sacramento, Calif. from June 7 -10, individual athletes must finish in the top five of their event.
