ORLANDO - First-round leader Georgia shot a 6-over-par 294 Friday and holds a two-shot lead after 36 holes of play at the NCAA East Regional at the Lake Nona Golf & Country Club.
Georgia has a two-round total of 2-over-par 578 and is followed by UNLV at 580. Wake Forest stands in third with a two-round total of 581.
The teams played in extremely windy conditions in the afternoon and no squads broke par on Friday. Nine individuals registered subpar rounds.
Senior Taylor Wood of Southern California shot a 3-under-par 69 and leads the individual race. Wood carded a 2-under-par 70 on Thursday for a 5-under-par tournament total of 139. A pair of players - senior Jonathan Jackson of North Carolina and UNLV sophomore Jarred Texter - are tied for second at 140. Jackson, who led after the first round, carded a 2-over-par 74 on Friday.
Freshman Brian Harmon (72), senior Kevin Kisner (74) and juniors Chris Kirk and Brendon Todd (74) counted for Georgia today.
Texas Tech is fourth at 582 and North Carolina sits in fifth at 585. Coastal Carolina had the low round of the day with an even-par 288. The Chanticleers (589) jumped from 17th to sixth heading into the final round. Charlotte shot a 2-over-par 290 in the second to move from 14th place to a tie for sixth.
Coastal Carolina freshman Cameron Hooper led his team by carding the low round of the day with a 4-under 68. He entered Friday in a tie for 109th place, but moved into a tie for 19th at 147.
Auburn (590), Southern California (592), UCLA (592) and Georgia State (596) and South Carolina (597) are still in contention to advance following Saturday's play. Rhode Island entered the day in fourth, but shot 25-over-par 313 and fell to 13th.
The top-10 squads in the 27-team field, plus two individuals not on those teams, advance to the NCAA Championship, which begins May 31 in Sunriver, Ore.
Texas Tech junior Oscar Floren and Charlotte junior Matt Mincer both shot 2-under-par 70 and are tied for fourth at 141 with Todd. Junior Sean Moore of Wake Forest sits alone in seventh (142).
