Women's Track and Field Finishes Ninth at C-USA Outdoor Championship

EL PASO, Texas - The UCF women's track and field squad finished ninth in the 12-team field at the 2006 Conference USA Track and Field Championship at UTEP's Kidd Field on Saturday.

The Golden Knights collected 45.50 points during the three-day event. Houston defended its title with 125 points followed by UTEP in second with 109 and Rice in third with 108.5. Southern Miss (85 pts.) was fourth and Tulsa and UAB tied for fifth with 74 points each.

Sophomore Victoria Chin earned two all-conference honors in the final day of competition. Early in the evening, she finished third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.12 then combined with juniors Jenny Rogan and Kaprice Williams and freshman Shantile Blackburn broke the school record in the 4x400m rely at 3:44.62 to capture the bronze medal.

Along with Rogan, freshman Dione Thomas and senior Lynnsey Hicks, Chin also placed seventh in the 4x100m relay.

Meanwhile, senior Diana Chin grabbed fourth place in the 100m hurdles with a season-best time of 14.06 and narrowly missed picking up her second all-conference honors of the weekend. On Friday, she received all-conference recognition in the long jump.

In the triple jump, Thomas was ninth as she leaped to a personal best of 39-feet, 7.25 inches.

Both Chins, junior Katie Fowke and senior Tiffany Roebuck will compete in the NCAA East Regional in Greensboro, N.C. from May 26-27.
