UCF Rowing Opens Competition at Regional Championships

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - The UCF women's rowing team opened competition at the Aramark Central/South Region Sprints on Melton Hill Lake on Saturday. Four UCF boats were in action and all advanced to the "B" finals that will run on Sunday morning.

The Golden Knights varsity eight boat, ranked 19th nationally, raced against three other squads in their heat, including 4th-ranked Ohio State. UCF finished at 7:01.6, the 10th fastest time out of 21 boats.

On Sunday, UCF will face No. 14 Michigan State, No. 15 Virginia, Duke, Iowa and Louisville in the "B" final. Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Notre Dame and host Tennessee advanced to the "A" final.

UCF's second varsity eight boat crossed the finish line third in its heat at 7:19.3, ahead of Kansas State and Cincinnati and trailing Michigan and Minnesota.

The Golden Knights' varsity four finished its heat at 7:49.3 and will race Kansas, Louisville, Notre Dame, Texas and Tennessee in the "B" final on Sunday. In novice eight action, UCF finished its heat with a time of 7:48.16.
