ORLANDO -Third baseman Kyle Norrid finished 5-for-6 with six RBI to lead visiting Memphis to a 20-4 victory over host UCF Friday evening at Jay Bergman Field. The loss, UCF's ninth straight in C-USA play, dropped the Golden Knights to 23-28 overall and 5-14 in league play. The visiting Tigers moved to 25-25 on the season and 8-11 in C-USA.
UCF scored two runs in the first before the Tigers broke the game open with 17 runs over four innings of play.
Memphis scored four runs in the third to take the lead for good, 4-2. The Tigers answered with another two runs in the fourth before a four-run fifth and a seven-run sixth extended the lead to 17-2.
The Golden Knights tied a season-high with six errors, leading to five unearned runs for the Tigers.
Memphis starter Scott McGregor (6-3) limited the Golden Knights to three runs on seven hits in seven innings of work. The freshman right-hander totaled six strikeouts and did not issue a walk.
UCF freshman southpaw Mitch Houck (3-3) yielded six runs on eight hits in 3.1 innings for the loss. The left-hander made his first career Friday night start for the Golden Knights, replacing All-America candidate Tim Bascom in the rotation. Bascom is not scheduled to pitch vs. the Tigers due to a knee contusion.
Five Memphis players finished with multi-hit games, including three hits from second baseman Bill Moss and four hits by catcher Cory Barton. Barton scored four runs and drove in a pair for Memphis.
The Tigers finished the night with 19 singles and one triple.
UCF designated hitter Dave Lambert finished 3-for-4 with a RBI and run scored.
The Golden Knights and Tigers continue their three-game series Saturday. First pitch is at 6:30 p.m. from Jay Bergman Field.
