UCF Hosts Rival Stetson in Home Finale

April 7, 2006

ORLANDO - The UCF women's tennis team faces in-state rival Stetson in its home finale on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the UCF Tennis Complex. Admission is free to all fans.

The Golden Knights (10-8) are coming off a trip to Louisville, where they lost by identical 5-2 scores to No. 60 Marshall and No. 72 Louisville. Despite the team snapping its five-match winning streak, senior Pamela Fernandez (Orlando/Boone HS) was able to stretch her winning streak to eight matches. Her impressive career will be celebrated as part of Senior Day prior to the first serve of Saturday's match.

Stetson, meanwhile, fell to 15-7 and had its winning streak halted at seven with a 5-2 loss to Jacksonville on Wednesday. Hatter freshman Samantha Lange is the reigning Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week after recording eight consecutive victories at the bottom of the lineup.

Former A-Sun opponents, Stetson and UCF have previously met 37 times on the hardcourts with the Hatters owning a 24-13 advantage. In 2005, the Golden Knights earned a 6-1 win in Deland, Fla.

After a scrimmage at Rollins on April 14, UCF plays its final regular season match at No. 70 Florida State on April 16 at 10 a.m.
