April 6, 2006

ORLANDO - The UCF men's tennis team will conclude the 2006 regular season this weekend with a pair of matches against in-state rivals. The Golden Knights (10-8) host Stetson on Friday and then welcome Jacksonville to Orlando on Sunday.

Friday's contest at the UCF Tennis Complex starts at 2 p.m. The match with Jacksonville is set for 1 p.m. All UCF tennis matches are free and open to the public.

The Golden Knights have won two-consecutive matches. Most recently, the squad recorded a 4-3 victory over North Florida on March 30 at home. UCF won all three doubles matches and sophomore Sinan Sudas clinched the victory with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 decision over the Ospreys' Matias Sigal at No. 2.

Freshman Brock Sakey has been solid in singles play for UCF head coach Bobby Cashman this season. He paces the Golden Knights with 13 victories this spring and has an 8-1 record at the No. 5 position.

Stetson will conclude its regular season on Friday. The Hatters have won eight-consecutive matches and are 16-4 on the year. On March 29, host Stetson registered a 7-0 win over Delaware. The Hatters' Marcus Echtler is ranked 109th nationally in singles play.

All-time, UCF has a 20-4 series edge with the Hatters. The teams met a year ago as Atlantic Sun Conference rivals in DeLand and the Golden Knights claimed a 6-1 win on April 6.

Jacksonville is 0-12 in 2006. The Dolphins dropped a 7-0 match to visiting Bethune-Cookman on Monday in their last outing. The squad visits Georgia Southern for a contest on Friday.

UCF and Jacksonville did not play last season, but UCF leads the all-time series with the Dolphins, 19-3.
