Rowing Moves Up in National Poll

April 26, 2006

ORLANDO - Despite not competing this past weekend, the UCF women's rowing team continues to climb in a number of polls. The Golden Knights moved up one position to No. 19 in the USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Association Varsity Eight Poll, which was released Wednesday.

UCF entered the poll for the first time in school history last week at No. 20. The team is coming off of a strong performance at the Stanford Invitational in Redwood Shores, Calif. on April 14-15. All three of the crews that UCF faced - Washington State (7), UCLA (15) and host Stanford (16) - are ranked in the poll.

On Tuesday, the NCAA released its regional polls and the Golden Knights remain prominent in the South poll. The program is ranked fourth in the region. UCF's varsity eight boat moved from No. 4 to No. 2 in the latest regional rankings. The Golden Knights passed Duke and Tennessee and now are behind only Virginia in the poll.

The Golden Knights will return to the waters on May 6 at the 20th annual Windermere Cup Regatta in Seattle, Wash. UCF will compete against 11th-ranked Washington and a national team from Russia.
