UCF Falls to UAB at C-USA Championship

TULSA, Okla. - The fifth-seeded UCF men's tennis team dropped a 4-2 opening-round match to No. 4 UAB at the Conference USA Championship on Friday morning at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The Golden Knights (11-10) were making their C-USA Championship debut.

The Blazers, who improve to 12-4, won the doubles point and then claimed three singles victories. UAB will face the winner of the No. 1 Rice/No. 8 Southern Miss match in the semifinals on Saturday.

UCF did record a pair of singles wins against the Blazers. At No. 5, freshman Tarek Ben Soltane defeated Johanness Spangenberg, 6-3, 6-3. Fellow freshman Brock Sakey took a 6-4, 6-4 win over Andre Maier at No. 4.

At the No. 2 position, UAB's Sebastian Falk got past sophomore Alamgir Wali (6-3, 6-3). UCF junior Sebastian Delgado dropped a 6-2, 6-1 contest to Kristijan Mitrovski at No. 3. Kruno Despotovski of UAB took a 6-1, 6-1 match at No. 6 against freshman Jimmy Roesch.

UCF was playing in the C-USA Championship for the first time after moving from the Atlantic Sun.
