TORONTO, Ontario - UCF senior center Cedric Gagne-Marcoux was selected by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats with the eighth selection of the first round in the 2006 Canadian Football League Draft Thursday. Gagne-Marcoux, who will be a fifth-year senior in the fall, has one year of eligibility remaining at UCF. He will become property of the Tiger-Cats if he does not sign with an NFL team following his collegiate career at UCF.
"I am honored to be selected, but I would rather put all my effort in staying at UCF," commented Gagne-Marcoux. "I am excited for our upcoming year at UCF and look forward to another successful season for our team."
Gagne-Marcoux is a native of Sherbrooke, Quebec and is the second Golden Knight to be selected in the CFL Draft. In 2005, he was named First-Team Conference USA for his efforts in leading the Golden Knights to the C-USA East Division Championship and an appearance in the inaugural C-USA Football Championship game.
The Golden Knights finished 8-5 a season ago and made their first bowl appearance in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl.
Gagne-Marcoux is one of five returning starters up front along the UCF offensive line. The Golden Knights return nine starters on offense and nine on defense going into the 2006 campaign.
UCF opens the season Sept. 2 at home vs. Villanova. To purchase season tickets or to renew season ticket plans, call the UCF Ticket Office at 407-823-1000.
