IRVING, Texas - No. 8 seed UCF opens its inaugural Conference USA Women's Tennis Championship against a familiar opponent - No. 9 UTEP - Thursday at 11 a.m. ET at the Garland Tennis Center outside of Dallas, Texas.
"The competition is tough in C-USA and the team is going to have to be focused on each opponent in order to advance into the next round," said UCF head coach Patricia Allison. "We're looking forward to having a great tournament."
The Golden Knights enter the tournament with an 11-8 record after taking a 5-2 win over Stetson on April 8. UCF held a scrimmage at Rollins on April 14 as its final tune-up prior to the championship.
The Miners, meanwhile, finished the regular season on an eight-match losing slide that included a 7-0 defeat at UCF on March 25 as well as losses to three other C-USA foes.
Championship host and No. 51 SMU edged No. 55 Marshall for the top seed. Houston grabbed the No. 3 seed followed by UAB and Tulsa. The top five seeds earn first-round byes.
The winner of the UCF-UTEP match meets SMU in the quarterfinals on Friday at 11 a.m. ET. The semifinals take place at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, while the championship match begins at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
