Softball Snaps Losing Streak with 3-1 Win over USF

TAMPA, Fla. - Amber Lamb was 2-for-3 at the plate with one run scored as the UCF softball team snapped its 18-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over USF Wednesday afternoon. The win was also the first in the Golden Knights' history over the Bulls.

The Golden Knights improved to 14-29 on the season, while the Bulls fell to 32-19.

Allison Kime pitched the complete game, giving up one run on two hits with 11 strikeouts. After pitching 2.1 innings and giving up three runs, Cristi Ecks was tagged with the loss for USF.

The Golden Knights' offense came alive in the third inning a put a three-spot on the board. Ashley Van Ryn led off the inning with a double to left center. Van Ryn advanced to third on a Lamb single to the second baseman. UCF loaded the bases with no outs after Cici Alvarez reached on a bunt single. Van Ryn scored the first run on a wild pitch. USF replaced starting pitcher Cristi Ecks after Breanne Javier hit a two RBI double, scoring Lamb and Alvarez for the final runs of the inning.

The Bulls picked up one run in their half of the fourth when Laura Wolf doubled to right center, plating Krista Holle from second.

The Golden Knights return to Conference USA action when the team hosts Memphis Friday and Saturday in a three-game series. Friday's first pitch is set for 5:30 p.m., while Saturday's is noon. Tickets are available at the gate, $5 for adults and $3 for senior citizens and children 5-17.
