CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The UCF volleyball team was in action on Saturday, posting a good showing against Colorado and host North Carolina at Carmichael Auditorium. The Golden Knights played four matches, recording a win against the host the Tar Heels.
UCF was competing in its second of three events this spring.
"We really had a great experience," said UCF head coach Meg Colado. "I was very pleased with our effort. Due to injuries, we were the only team that had to play with no substitutes, but still competed and played very well against two great teams."
Both North Carolina and Colorado participated in the NCAA Championship in 2005. The Tar Heels went 23-10 and claimed the Atlantic Coast Championship title to earn a spot in the postseason. Colorado earned an at-large invitation to the NCAA Championship out of the Big 12.
The three teams started Saturday by participating in competitive drills. The teams mixed for the drills, working on hitting and other team and individual skills.
"The tournament was a lot of fun," said UCF sophomore outside hitter Lorin Lukas. "We had the opportunity to compare ourselves against good teams and great players. We had a good showing and it was a preview of what we are capable of doing this upcoming season."
The Golden Knights conclude their spring season on Saturday, welcoming six teams to the Education Gym on campus for the UCF Spring Tournament. Georgia, Miami, North Florida, USF, Stetson and Tampa will participate in the event, which is free and open to the public.
