Bascom Named C-USA Pitcher of the Week

April 10, 2006

IRVING, Texas - UCF junior Tim Bascom was named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week by the league office Monday. The junior from Dunedin tossed a complete-game, two-hit shutout vs. East Carolina to earn the award.

Bascom helped guide UCF to an 8-0 win in the first game of the East Carolina series with the complete-game gem. He faced just two batters over the minimum en route to the Golden Knights second straight shutout. Bascom struck out nine and walked just one, throwing UCF's first two-hitter since Matt Fox limited Georgia State to two hits in May, 2004. He closed the game by retiring the final 14 batters that he faced.

Bascom lowered his season ERA to 1.22 with the complete-game shutout. It was the fourth complete game of Bascom's career and his second complete-game shutout.

In two C-USA games this season, he is 2-0 with a 0.53 ERA in 17 innings. He has 21 strikeouts in the two league games and opponents are batting .109 against him.

UCF returns to action Tuesday at home vs. USF. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. from Jay Bergman Field.
