Softball Splits with Boston College and St. John's

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS - Kacie Feaster was 4-for-7 at the plate for the Golden Knights as the UCF softball team defeated Boston College 4-1 and then was defeated by St. John's 7-2 in 10 innings at Merrill Park Tuesday afternoon. The Golden Knights are now 12-11, while the Eagles are 4-6 and the Red Storm are 4-7.

In addition to Feaster, Cici Alvarez was 3-for-7 with three runs. Allison Kime earned the win for the first game and the loss for the second, pitching a combined 9.1 innings and giving up seven runs on one hit.

Game One:
UCF put a dent on the score board in the top of the second. Brittany Walters led off the inning with a walk. Two batters later, pinch runner Michelle Newton scored.

Alvarez led off the third inning with a single to right center. Feaster advanced Alvarez to third on a sacrifice bunt, followed by Amber Lamb who singled to right center, scoring Alvarez.

Lamb picked up her second RBI of the game in the fifth when she hit a single to right field, scoring Alvarez from second.

Boston College scored one run in the bottom of fifth on one hit batter and one UCF error.

UCF defeated Boston College, 4-1, with Kime throwing her second career no-hitter, while giving up one run on seven strikeouts and no walks.

Alvarez led UCF's offensive attack, going 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs.

Game Two:
Against St. John's, UCF had runners advance to third base in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings but were unable to produce the necessary runs.

In St. John's half of the fifth, Lamb picked off a runner at home from shallow left field, stopping the Red Storm's attack.

The two teams took a scoreless game into the 10th inning, where the tie breaker rule went into effect.

St. John's started with Tami Hill on second base. She advanced to third on a wild pitch and then scored on an error. Two batters later, the Red Storm laid down a squeeze bunt plating a second run. Roxann Struble hit a two-run double to right field, making it 4-0. Jessica Foley hit a sacrifice fly to left field, plating a fifth run. Two batters later, Hill came to plate and hit a two-run double of her own to give St. John's a 7-0 lead.

Feaster started UCF's half of the 10th as the runner on second. Breanne Javier hit her first career home run over the right field fence, scoring Feaster.

At the end of the game, St. John's was up, 7-2. Lisa Geer (2-1) earned the win for the Red Storm, giving up two runs on nine hits with eight strikeouts in 10 innings of work. Kime was pegged with the loss, pitching 2.1 innings and giving up six runs on one hit with one strikeout.

The Golden Knights travel to Fresno, Calif. to participate in the Fresno State Bulldog Classic March 9-12. UCF returns home on Tuesday, March 14 to open its new stadium and host Conference USA foe Tulsa at 5:30 p.m.
