ORLANDO - The UCF softball team hosts St. John's and Boston College Tuesday afternoon at Merrill Park in Altamonte Springs. St. John's and Boston College play at 1 p.m. followed by UCF versus St. John's at 3 p.m. and UCF versus Boston College at 5 p.m.
The Golden Knights enter the games with an 11-10 record. Cici Alvarez leads the Golden Knights with a .354 batting average, 23 hits, 14 runs, nine walks and six sacrifice hits.
Allison Kime is 7-3 in the circle for UCF with a 1.48 ERA. She has given up 21 runs on 52 hits with 83 strikeouts in 75.2 innings of work.
The Golden Knights went 3-3 over the weekend at the UCF Tournament. Ashley Van Ryn led UCF with a .333 batting average for the weekend, going 4-for-12 at the plate with two runs and one walk. Kime was 3-0 for the Golden Knights, giving up one run on 15 hits with 36 strikeouts in 25.2 innings of work.
St. John's brings a record of 3-7 to Orlando after 0-3 against Stetson in DeLand over the weekend. Lauren Lupinetti leads the team with a .500 batting average in nine games. Pitcher Kimberly Lerch is 0-3 but leads the team with a 5.40 ERA. Lerch has appeared in six games with one complete game during the 2006 season.
Last time out, the Red Storm was dealt three losses by the Hatters and was outscored by a combined 24-8 in those games. Jo Sherlock was 5-for-10 at the plate for the Red Storm with three runs.
The series between UCF and St. John's is tied at a game apiece. The two teams last met in 2004 with the Golden Knights winning, 9-1. Stephanie Best was 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, one home run and six RBI. Lindsay Enders earned the win, pitching five innings and giving up one run on hit with two strikeouts.
Boston College comes to Altamonte Springs with a 4-5 record after participating in the FAU Pepsi Cola Classic in Boca Raton over the weekend. The Eagles are led by Renee Ramos who has a .520 batting average. Savana Lloyd leads the pitching staff with a 3.38 ERA in 13.1 innings of work, where she has given up seven runs on 18 hits with four strikeouts.
Last time out, the Eagles went 1-3 at the FAU Pepsi Cola Classic against Florida Atlantic and Auburn.
The Golden Knights lead the all-time series, 1-0, versus the Eagles. The two teams first met in 2004, when UCF won, 5-0.
Next up, UCF travels to Fresno, Calif. to participate in the Fresno State Bulldog Classic this weekend. The Golden Knights open their new stadium Tuesday, March 14 against Conference USA foe Tulsa, with the first pitch slated for 5:30 p.m.
