ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - Allison Kime pitched a three-hit shutout and hit a home run as the Golden Knights took second place at the UCF Tournament Sunday afternoon. UCF (11-10) defeated Creighton (4-6), 1-0, and then fell to New Mexico State (17-7), 4-0, in the championship game.

For the tournament, New Mexico State was first, UCF was second, Creighton was third, Bethune-Cookman was fourth and Villanova was fifth. Kime and Ashley Baker were both named to the all-tournament team for UCF.

"Win one, lose one," said head coach Renee Luers-Gillispie. "We have to find a way to win two in a row. With so many young players, it is a learning process everyday. The games that we struggle in today will make us better in the future."

Game One:
UCF's lone run of the game came in the third inning when Kime sent the first pitch for a ride over the left field fence.

Creighton was never able to get a runner past second base throughout the game.

For the game, Kime was 2-for-2 at the plate with one run and one RBI.

Kime (7-3) earned the win for the Golden Knights, giving up three hits with nine strikeouts. The loss went to Stephanie Cortese (2-2) who gave up one run on five hits with seven strikeouts.

Game Two:
New Mexico State took a 1-0 lead after the first inning on three hits.

The Aggies scored a second run in the second inning followed by a third run in the third inning on a combined one hit and three UCF errors.

NMSU loaded the bases with no outs in the fifth and was only able to get one run across to go up, 4-0.

UCF managed to get a runner to third in the top of the seventh but was unable to score her.

Kim Watson earned the win for the Aggies, giving up no runs on three hits in 4.1 innings of work, while Baker was tagged with the loss.

"We faced some great competition this weekend," said Gillispie. "New Mexico State gave us two great games and this weekend allowed us to see some good pitching."

The Golden Knights return to Merrill Park Tuesday afternoon to take on St. John's at 3 p.m. and Boston College at 5 p.m.
