Softball Heads to Southern Miss

ORLANDO-The UCF softball team travels to Hattiesburg, Miss. to take on Southern Miss in a three-game Conference USA series Saturday and Sunday at the Southern Miss Softball Complex. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. both days. The Golden Knights enter the series with a season record of 13-23 and 0-9 in C-USA, while the Golden Eagles are 18-23 and 4-2. Radio for the games will be available live on the internet at www.ucfathletics.com.

The squads will play two games on Saturday and conclude the series with one contest on Sunday.

Scouting UCF...Cici Alvarez leads UCF with a .324 batting average, 36 hits, 22 runs, 14 walks and 11 sacrifice hits. Allison Kime is 9-9 in the circle for the Golden Knights with a 1.67 ERA. She has given up 54 runs on 104 hits with 128 strikeouts in 134.1 innings of work.

Last Time Out...UCF dropped three games to Houston last weekend (5-1, 3-2, 4-0) at home. Amber Lamb was 4-for-13 with one double and one RBI for the series.

Next Up for UCF...The Golden Knights travel to Birmingham, Ala. April 8-9 to take on UAB.

Scouting Southern Miss...Jennifer Fox leads the Golden Eagles with a .345 batting average. Samantha Davis is 3-3 as a pitcher in 14 appearances with an ERA of 2.49.

Last Time Out...The Golden Eagles were defeated by No. 22 Mississippi State Thursday night, 8-0. The Bulldogs' pitcher, Ragan Blake, picked up a no-hitter against Southern Miss, narrowly missing the perfect game by issuing one walk.

Series vs. Southern Miss...The Golden Knights and the Golden Eagles have never met on the softball diamond before.

The Golden Knights return to the UCF Softball Complex April 14-15 when the squad hosts Memphis. Tickets are available at the gate, $5 for adults and $3 for senior citizens and children 5-17.
