WASHINGTON, D.C. - Former UCF men's soccer goalkeeper Ryan McIntosh signed a developmental contract with Major League Soccer's D.C. United, the team announced this week.

McIntosh earned the deal following a successful tryout during the United's training camp in Charleston, S.C.

"We are pleased to have signed Ryan to a developmental contract," said D.C. United Technical Director Dave Kasper in a statement released by the team. "He had an impressive trial with us during our camp in Charleston and will provide solid depth for us at the goalkeeper position."

McIntosh, who graduated in December 2005, enjoyed a stellar four-year career with the Golden Knights. Starting in all 78 matches, he finished his career ranked second all-time at UCF in saves (379) and shutouts (21), while he was fifth in goals-against-average at 1.28. His efforts earned him Atlantic Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Year and First-Team All-Atlantic Sun honors twice as he helped guide the Golden Knights to three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances from 2002-04.

McIntosh played his final season with the Golden Knights in Conference USA, where he led the league in saves per game (5.75) and was second in save percentage (.793).

"We're ecstatic that Ryan earned this well-deserved opportunity with the United," said UCF head coach Brent Erwin. "It is a positive reflection on Conference USA and the direction that the UCF men's soccer program is headed. Ryan worked very hard on the field and in the classroom. I believe that he will continue to succeed as he moves forward in his professional career."

McIntosh joins former UCF midfielder Eric Vasquez of the Columbus Crew on the list of Golden Knight alumni playing for MLS clubs.

D.C. United opens the 2006 season on Sunday against the New York Red Bulls.
